I woke up this morning at 7AM fired up. I went to bed angry so fired up is better. I cleared my head after all the Big Ten/Ohio State dumping I have heard basically since the Rose Bowl match-up was set. So often I believe Buckeye fans are off base with the belief that Ohio State gets treated badly by the media. This time Buckeye fans are right.
How can you possibly believe that Oregon is going to win this game??? They are faster? Where? Show me. Maybe they are quicker in the offensive line but that is the nature of their offense. The one that kills me is how many people are saying Oregon is going to hang 50 on the Buckeyes. Based on what, the 47 they laid on USC? That doesn't seem to be a very hard thing to do. Running up 40 points on a
Pac-10 defense is about standard. So this defense that has allowed 146 points all year including 11 to the USC offense, no I do NOT count the first touchdown USC supposedly scored, is going to allow 50 in one game? If you believe that, you are not a serious person. Oregon is going to score points. They are not going to score 50. I think it will be a poor Buckeye defensive performance to allow 30.
I know there are plenty of Bucknuts fans here. I am sure you saw the write-up by Coach. I only hope the Buckeye staff has an evalution to match the one Coach put up. He and I are on the same page about how to beat this team. The defensive line must win at the line of scrimmage. Coach is more concerned about their back LeMichael James. I think it goes back to keeping the short Masoli in the pocket and make him a drop back passer. Keeping him in the pocket keeps him from hurting us with his feet. Coach noted that Masoli has almost a side armed motion. If we keep him in the pocket, no matter what else happens with any of their other players, we win the game. James is a good back but he is not going to beat us by himself. I think Masoli getting his means we lose the game. We have to be aggressive. Coach made the point just as strongly as I will make it here. We have to get after them.
On offense we need to do what we have been doing. Run the football. We are getting the best offensive line play that we have had in longer than any of us want to think about. Long run drives keeps their offense on the sideline. I would like to see the option in the game. It stretches the defense. Makes them play wider than they want to play against an inside running team like Ohio State, and it brings the safeties closer to the line of scrimmage. One play that we have been successful with is the freeze option. We don't run it often and I don't understand why. Maybe it is because we don't want to run enough option to really sell it. I just know it is successful.
We should win this game. We are the better team. We have the better athletes. If the coaching staff goes out and calls the game like they did against Texas, we will win this game.
