College Football News is coming on as a solid source for conversation about college football. Buckeye fans have had enough of getting beaten up by ESPN. College Football News is showing itself to be more balanced.
In a recent story they say that Ohio State can be back in the national title hunt...... by the end of this year. Yes, 2009-2010 not 2010-2011. That is not so hard to believe. The Buckeyes are across the board #7 in the country. Everyone above them has tougher games on their schedules but the Buckeyes have Penn State at their joint and an improved Michigan at the Big House. In between is another tough high profile game with Iowa. The chances the
Buckeyes are at least in the top five are high if we win out.
Fans are not excited about this news. Because we are a year away fans see another ugly nationally televised loss. We need to get over the hump. We need to get over the hump several times. First, you have to get there. Can't win a national match-up if you are not playing in one. The competitor in me says keep trying. Never give up. I want to play and win, against the best of the best. No matter how many times they beat me I am going to stand-up and climb back in there time after time. What has me excited about the possibility is this. I don't believe we make it that far if we do not improve. We have to get consistency out of Pryor. We will not beat Penn State at Penn State. We will have a hard time with Iowa. That is a very good football team with the best quarterback in the Big Ten.
I would want to play Florida, Alabama, whoever, no matter what, but if we win out it will be because we are good enough to be there.

Offensively, I think we can be better than we have shown, but we should still be much farther along than we are now. It leads me to believe that we would see major puckering if we made it to the MNC this year. Our passing game should be downright scary 6 games in, yet we ocntinue to look for opportunties to abandon it as soon as we get a lead. It's not developing, and there is very little evidence to suggest it will be championship caliber by the end of the year. With the FG unit struggling (by OSU standards) we need an offense that has the stones to want to punch it in on every possession. It's not there yet. Will it be next year? It may have to overcome the defense in games against equal or better (sic) talent, and we should be there. But then again, what will change between now and then -- it has to be more than just experience.
