The key to the rest of the season

Some fans seem to be concerned about this Saturday because of the running back situation. It's New Mexico. No, .........its not. It's New Mexico State. They have been outscored 79-10 in their last 2 games. They have been held under 7 points 3 times this year. They have scored more than 20 points once this year. It was 21 in the second game of the year..... versus Prarie View A&M. They have allowed more than 34 points 4 times in their 8 games. We don't need to be at our best for them. We do need to be at our best for the last 3. I would go with walk-ons at RB before letting Saine or Herron anywhere near the field this Saturday. Pryor as the main runner and getting the ball to the receivers will be enough.

That said, it may be the most important game of the year. In last weeks game review I mentioned that the first 5 minutes of the second half last week as a point we will look back on in the future as a turning point. I saw a difference in the body language. I saw some confidence return. This week is a game that can build on that confidence. Fans get bothered by cocky kids. I have been doing this for a long time now. Make no mistake. Do not deceive yourselves. All of these kids have that confidence. Some say so. Others don't. The ones we call humble have been taught that is is unsavory to say how great you are. They all know it. You can't be d man if you do not think you are da man. You can't beat the man if you do not beleive you are da man. Going into Penn State, we need every kid believing they are da man. I watched Penn State last week. That is a really good team. We are playing them at their place. They beat us at ours last year. They believe they can beat us. We have to go in believing we can beat them or we won't.

I have come to believe we win out if we beat Penn State. We needed to get back to being a good football team. I saw us start to look like a good football team last week. I watched Iowa again last week. The media is in love with Iowa. Getting to 6-0, they won 3 home games by a total of 6 points including a 1 point win over N. Iowa and a 2 point win over Michigan in a game where Michigan turned the ball over 5 times. They beat Michigan State at home last week on a touchdown pass on the last play of the game. Iowa has never had success against the Buckeyes. I see no reason to believe that this game will be any different.

Michigan is better but not good enough yet. It all comes back to Forcier. Whether he is still capable of putting on a uniform by that time remains to be seen. I said it before and I will say it again now, that kid is taking one of the all-time great beatings. Robinson can't play quarterback even in the read option. He has to be able to throw the ball a little. Gary Yepremian can throw the ball better than Robinson.

It is not about the teams in front of us. It is about how we play. If Going 10-2 would be a pretty good outcome from such a tumultuous season.

People are concerned about the RB situation? Are you kidding me? We could put Pettrey at RB in this game and we'll be fine. Provided one small detail...

We can't come into this game like we did against Purdue. We can't walk out on that field feeling as if winning is a foregone conclusion. Thankfully, I think Pryor may have learned that lesson. Has everyone else? Yesterdays interview with TP gives me confidence that we are practicing well this week.

We just need to grow a little this week and get confident for PSU just like you say. And I agree, if we beat PSU we run the table.

Agreed, Duane, the team that I saw Saturday is a REALLY good team. As a team, overall, they seem really sharp, with everyone doing their job, and doing it well. They looked sharp, quick, decent speed, good execution, and everyone seemed to know what they were doing. Nobody standing around picking their nose. We will have to be better than we were against Minny to beat them. No reason that we can't be.

we win out if we play-call and execute like we did last week. i'm not saying school 38 points a game, but we need to run more play actions and throw the ball deep. hopefully one day we'll graduate to the screen pass.

Couldn't agree more about the play-actions. It seems every defense OSU plays is coming with their ears pinned back every play, particularly the opposing DEs. I think a lot of this is just to keep contain on Pryor and the further upfield the DEs get, the harder it is for TP to get out of the pocket. Keeping him in the pocket is clearly the recipe for success against the Buckeye offense. Once TP escapes the pass rush and establishes a run-pass option outside the pocket, the Bucks get real, real dangerous.

The 17 play drive that included the fourth and one call set the table. Mike Brewster pumping his fist was an exhale heard 3 states down. Even though our inconstant kicker missed another chip shot .....that was the drive that I think we go back to.
Defensively I would like to see a very aggressive approach the last 3 games.
The exact opposite of the game plan verse Purdue.

Yep, look great against Minnesota, Toledo, and probably New Mexico State. I want to see the offense and TP look good against a quality defense. I would bounce off the walls with happiness if TP would start dominating against the likes of USC, Texas, or Penn State. Until I see it, I wont believe any of the talk. With Tressel its one boring game after another. The players look like emotionless robots, he zaps the energy out of everyone we have on offense. All I want is to be entertained again while watching the Buckeyes, is that too much to ask?

RE: "All I want is to be entertained again while watching the Buckeyes, is that too much to ask?"

- I completely agree. Why do we 'have' to have the 100th best offense in the country and constantly need our defense to outscore 2 offenses every week in order to win and win comfortably. ...How many people were watching the VT/UNC game last night, thinking, "man, if we had either of these offenses (or their offensive coaches), we'd almost certainly be undefeated"?

Duane,

The O-Line is a mess. Cordle is terrible @ LT. He will be a huge liability if he plays there next week. Moses(backup) looked better than Cordle.

What kind of coaching is the O-Line receiving that consistently turns 5 star recruits into major disappointments?
