I was impressed with Kyle Kalis from the time I saw him but the most recent tape puts him in the must have category. He is a natural wide body. He is a little over 300 now and if he did not play football and never got in the weightroom he would still weigh 320-330 because his body is built to me that big. He is a knee bender. No bending at the waist and reaching for Kyle Kalis. I wonder if his NFL lineman of a Dad had anything to do with that. He is as technically sound as any lineman I have seen in the last couple of years. Once he gets his hands on a defender it is over. He is going to punish him until the whistle blows. He is athletic enough to get out and make second level blocks. The only thing that remains is to see if he can play the left side. Not enough pass blocking clips on his film. What I have seen from him as far as pass blocking is concerned is very promising. He sits his butt down and gets those feet moving. He has length and reach. He is a must have kid in the next class. Get an offer out there now. With Aundray Walker the only offensive lineman still on the board for us, it is not like we are waiting to see what several linemen are going to do first.
I am done with Sturdivant. His most recent film shows a 260 lb player but how this kid carries the weight. I was concerned about him being a tweener but now after getting a look at how good this kid looks at that weight, he goes from an offer I am okay with to a player I want to see get an offer. There seems to be some question about whether he actually has an offer or not. After seeing this film I am convinced. He makes plays. He makes alot of plays. He is not running like a linebacker anymore but he is certainly running plenty well enough to be a defensive end. I think he could actually carry more weight on that big ol' frame. He could go 280 and play as one of those strong side ends who can slide down inside to the three technique. If he doesn't get any bigger he can play the weakside. Since the body is no longer a question mark in my mind I very much want Sturdivant to wear scarlet and gray.
Cardale Jones threw the ball extremely well. Of his first four passes three were beautifully thrown balls. The one he missed on, threw it into the ground, was when he threw off his back foot. I would love to ask these kids why they do that???? On the other three he stepped into the throw and came through with his weight on his front foot. Beautiful. I am going to borrow this quote from Mark Porter, " Jones has the most upside and could easily be the top guy but there is a chance he never reaches his full potential." That sums up Cardale Jones. I want to find out the answer with him wearing scarlet and gray.
