Thought you got rid of me? Nah. Bloguin changed to a new server. The first was defective so we moved again. Now all the bugs are worked out and we can get back to it.

So much has happened in the last week. We got a couple of verbals and camp gave us more reason to believe that the next class is going to live up to expectations and could exceed them.We had some personnel changes.

First, the verbals. Nick Vannett is a huge get. We do not throw to the tight end. I know that drives so many of you crazy. It does not drive me crazy. I agree with the basic principle of the offense. Run the ball and go down the field to to the playmakers. The tight ends that fans are getting excited about are in tight end friendly offenses. That means the tight end is a primary receiver sometimes. I don't think we will ever see that here and I am fine with that. We still need tight ends. Because we do not feature the tight end we are not going to land players like Vannett very often. We need a block first tight end but hopefully one who can be a good receiver too. That is what we get with Vannett. Heuerman too. Vannett is a natural as a receiver. Great hands and you can watch him find the soft spots when you look at his film. He really brings it as a blocker. As much as you may want one of these guys that looks like a big wide receiver at tight end, this is the kind of tight end we need for our offense. There could be a fringe benefit of taking two tight ends. We might get that left tackle out of the deal with Reid Fragel moving down. I have to believe the staff is talking about this. Move up more athletic players into the tight end depth chart and at the same time get a left tackle out of the deal.

I heard about Joshua Perry being an offer kid last weekend. I just didn't expect it to happen so quickly. He is a very interesting offer. His film is nice but it is not the best of the class. He had a great camp where he showed himself to be the epitome of a project. His raw tools are first rate. He is going to come in as a linebacker but has the growth potential to be a defensive end. The body is just what everyone is looking for. He is very long in body and in limb. He runs great. Perry is a high character kid and is highly intelligent carrying a 4.0. When you see a 4.0 you usually find a high achiever. A kid who is a worker. Take the athleticism, add intelligence and a work ethic. I don't have the exact quote but a coach said something along the lines of they don't know what they have just yet but they think he is going to something. Where and how soon is the only thing they are not so sure of.

Duron Carter is out. I think he never comes back. He could not get his academics together at Ohio State with all the academic support that a school like Ohio State can provide but he is going to suddenly find the focus at Coffeyville CC??? He did a video about how much he wants to come back. It is utterly and completely up to him. It is one thing in this life he has 100% control over. It is not a matter of things coming together. You are the master of your own destiny. Talk about it all you want, Duron. There is no formula. Things do not need to fall your way. You don't need a break. Just do the work, my son. Drives me nuts. Do I want him back? Absolutely. He is an NFL talent.

Keith Wells left. He was an even bigger waste than Carter. At least Carter performed. Wells left us with glimpses of what he could be. In three years it added up to nothing. He would not work hard. He would not come to meetings on time. This is nothing but good news. We have more talent in this class and the next than we can handle. Getting an unproductive scholarship back early is a big plus and the timing could not have been better.
