Add me to those who believe that the Kyle Kalis saga is not over. I think he could very easily change his mind again. He has committed to two different schools and a total of three different times and conditioning for high schools is just getting underway. There is some buzz out there that he has burned bridges and if he changes his mind again that it will not be to come back to Ohio State. I need to see that to believe it. You take a national top ten offensive lineman anytime you can get him. With only two tackles on the 2012 roster as it stands right now, that is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I looked at the top receivers the Buckeyes are looking at recently. Those were just Ohio receivers. Michael Thomas, the JUCO player from California, is definitely a player I would love
to see in scarlet and gray. He may in fact be the first to get an offer as he is the only one with a visit set. He will be in Columbus in August.
I have not said anything about the most recent Ohio State verbals, Luke Roberts, a linebacker from Lancaster, and Patrick Elflein, a lineman from Pickerington. I really could not say about Roberts. I have seen two films recently that I could not get a good read on. One was 2013 quarterback Nathan Strock. The other is Luke Roberts. It has a flickering jerky quality and looks like it has been sped up. He looks great on the film. I just did not trust it. I assume the film is accurate with the offer. That means we stole one. He may not have the offer list that you would expect. That could be because of the film.
I am surprised at the Elflein offer. I saw a very good football player but not a Big Five player. I do not see a Big Five body. He has a great motor and plenty of nasty. I don't see an player who is going to be big enough to have an impact in the trenches of the Big Ten. I heard about the 285. I know he is not close to 285 in his junior film. I spoke to a number of people who were at Buckeye camp. Not one saw 285 in Elflein. I don't know if he is an offensive player or a defensive player. I would plug him in at defensive tackle and hope he ends up being another John Simon.
On the coaching front. It seems it is all about Luke Fickell. I hear 11 games and the job is his. I have also heard 10. There is no buzz about Urban Meyer whatsoever. The smart money says Bo Pelini should Fickell not get the number of wins he needs. This team was at least a 9 win team with Jim Tressel still at the helm. The horses are there for a 10 win season and I think 11 or 12 is definitely possible. Nebraska away and Wisconsin here are the big hurdles. It is Fickells job to lose.
