Which true freshmen play this season? 1 Year ago Karma: 1
I mean at their primary position, not special teams. Ill say...

Hyde: We can play three backs this year and he is our only big power back.

Homan: Came in early and can contribute at FB.

Mewhort: My guess is he is the only new OL that won't red shirt. Also came in early.

Carter: And especially if Small is not around. We aren't that deep here, another freshmen might see some time.

Klein: Came in early and has impressed. Bell is a massive talent but we are just so deep at LB I think all his time will be on special teams.

Barnett: Another early entry who has impressed. I don't think he will get much time but I'm guessng he will see some.

What is the take home message: come in early if you can.

A swing and a miss on Hyde but who knew on that one? I guess he gets another chance next year if he ever makes the grade. There was some mention on Rivals of a Houston RB getting an offer. If that is true Hyde may never make it.

I look at it like this. The depth chart will be the key to which newbies will shine. The numbers are low at DB, OL, and RB, so that will probably be the area for a guy to get a chance to shine.

The CB spots aren't very secure after spring practice. Nobody really stood out. So Barnett and Brown should get some major reps to see if there the answer.

OL - Um, We really don't need to go into that, some people say we're being negative. lol. Lets just say we need big able bodies in our two deep. That means Mr. Hall and Mr. Mewhort need to step up. Mewhort has the right mindstate and spring ball so he gets the nod.

RB- RB get dinged up. Considering we only have 2 true RB's on schollie besides the newbie, by default Berry is only one tweaked hammy from getting some major carries. That said I expect Mr. Berry to be in the best shape of his life by the end of fall camp (he'll get special attention I'm sure) and actually contribute this year because of the low numbers.

Nice tongue in cheek about Mr. Berry's conditioning, Kasino!

I'm going to have to agree that it probably comes from the OL position group. JT and JB have played more true freshman on the OL than most others - often out of necessity. I'm going Mewhart.

Berry, Carter, Mewhort, Homan, Brown, Klein, for sure will play.

Barnett, M. Hall, Longo, Bell, Jackson, Whiting, Fellows, Clarke, and Wood might play.

Simon, Bellamy, Fragel, Fields, Boren, Guiton, Linsley, Newsome, and J. Hall will probably redshirt.

Hearing too many good things about J. Hall to think he'll "probably redshirt." If practice reports are to be believed, he'll probably play.

Duane, you've said many times since signing day that the future of OSU's offense will be discernible by looking at J. Hall and where he lines up. So far, he's been taking reps at RB. Does this signal a new direction for the offense, as you've been predicting?

Well, I posted that before fall camp. I've heard good things about Hall too. He looks physically ready to play.

I have to say yes. He is not the kind of back JT has recruited at Ohio State. Never has he offered a kid who was not first and foremost good between the tackles, was better in space, and was a really good receiver.
